Perseverance is the quality that enables us to achieve our
goals. As the moral of Aesop’s fable of The Tortoise and the
Hare reminds us, "slow and steady wins the race", so children
need to be instructed to try hard, try again if necessary,
and soon their goals can be accomplished. Perseverance, used
in conjunction with other good qualities, has been the backbone
of all progress and is an essential quality for children to learn.
As parents and teachers we need to model our own commitment and
stick-to-it-tiveness so that our children can see the value of
perseverance. We can also consistently encourage them as they
attempt to accomplish their own goals.
Finally, we need to take the concept of having perseverance very
seriously by setting high standards for ourselves as parents and
educators, as well as holding those same high standards for our children,
expecting and accepting only the best in terms of perseverance. |
